Agents: Wow Your Clients When They Move

I’ve moved a lot in my adult life. I think it has been 14 local moves, one move half way across the country, one move to a new country and my most recent move from New Jersey to California.

I think real estate agents should have to move once every five years just to remember the stress and anxiety their clients are going through during the moving process. No matter how organized or how much pre planning you do, moving is stressful. Packing up one home, getting all that stuff to the new home and unpacking it there is bound to leave you exhausted.

This is a great opportunity for a real estate agent to really come though on the customer service front. Sometimes the small things can make a huge difference. Here are some ideas I’ve collected over the years that I think agents could use to make a lasting impact with their clients.

Show up with dinner or treats on packing or unpacking day. It’s such a busy time and often finding food becomes a hassle in the middle of all the chaos.

Send a gift basket of packing supplies (tape, markers, bubble wrap, etc). You can never have too much of this stuff on packing day.

Send or personally deliver some fresh flowers to the new home the day after the clients move in. Nothing signifies a fresh start in a new home like some beautiful flowers.

I’ve even heard some agents who plan the house-warming party. Not a bad way to meet lots of new potential clients when you are behind the BBQ saying hi to everyone.

Every time I move I say “this will be the last time”. That is of course …until the next time.

  2. Totally agree. Customer service is very important. Perhaps equally important is education – being prepared to tackle the needs of your client base.
