A New Perspective on Aging

Life in Three Acts:

  • Act One: birth to 30 years
  • Act Two: 31- 60 years young
  • Act Three 61- plus

These are the three acts of life Jane Fonda discusses during this talk she gave at TED. Jane Fonda is a smart, strong, beautiful and resilient woman. I was a fan before I watched this video. Then she blew me away with her delivery, content and message. At 74 years young (unconfirmed) she rocks.

As I become firmly entrenched in my own second act, it’s a delightful reassurance to know that our life expectancy has increased on average 34 years from that of my great grandparents. We are now expected to live and work longer than any generation before us.

Of particular interest to me is the “older women” demographic. This is the group each day brings me closer and closer to and it is the largest demographic group in the world. Imagine the ability we have to shape the future. That gets me excited!

Take 11 minutes and watch this. Whatever act of life you are in you’ll appreciate her comments.

I've spent my career working with people and organizations to help them build their brands. We live in a connected world where that line between a personal and professional persona has become nonexistent. Your brand is you 24/7. This blog is about me and my life. Some of it will relate to my passion for the real estate industry and some of it will just be about me living life and exploring my interests.

The opinions expressed here are my own personal opinions. They do not reflect the opinions of my company (Carrington Real Estate Services).

  1. I absolutely love what she has to say about the human spirit and our ability to transform and move up the staircase into wholeness and authenticity. This last year has been the most transformational both internally and externally for me and I suspect it has been the same for you.

I am thrilled to see what the next 10 years brings as I move into my (gasp) 50’s and become as Jane says…less worried about those things that seemingly mattered so much and far more apt to embrace all that surrounds us.

Change can be fabulous if we allow it to manifest a better version of who we are truly meant to be. Awesome post Wendy!

  2. Great share, Wendy!

Jane has inspired me for many years. The first time I heard her speak in person was 1969 …. I will never forget watching her emerge from the back of a station wagon … she and Tom Hayden removed a blanket that concealed them and they spoke to a peace rally at the Unitarian Church in Paramus, NJ. I am turning 60 this year. I love her notion of a staircase. I understand what she means about authenticity and wisdom. I have a year left in my second act. The third act will make perfect sense!

Thanks again. This was a great way to start the day!

  3. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing this, I feel inspired by Jane (yet again.) She is awesome.
